Public Safety Canada has awarded Solana Networks a contract to benchmark the accuracy of its ML-based TrafficWiz Classifier solution against DPI solutions for the classification of encrypted network traffic.

Application identification and network traffic classification is widely used by network operators and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in a variety of areas including network planning, policy management and management of data lakes among others.

Studies have shown that over 80% of Internet traffic today is encrypted. The high level of encryption coupled with rapid deployment of TLS1.3 makes it extremely difficult for traditional packet classification solutions to pinpoint underlying applications with accuracy.

Solana's TrafficWiz solution includes network traffic analysis capabilities which accurately classify network traffic in the presence of encryption and/or absence of packet payload. The solution leverages machine learning approaches which operate independently of network traffic content.
